Senator Scott Brown and NDAA 2012
Many in congress realize that there is terrible, potentially unconstitutional language in NDAA 2012 that could be interpreted as to allow the federal government to us the U.S. military to detain U.S. Citizens, on U.S. Soil, and hold them for life; deprive them of the due process guaranteed us by the Constitution.
Senator Brown voted in favor of NDAA. We give him the benefit of the doubt that he believed this was 'good' legislation when he voted for it. But, it should be clear to everyone at this point that, at a minimum, there is terrible ambiguity in this bill. Many in congress are working on correcting the controversial language to ensure this bill cannot to be used to deprive U.S. citizens of their constitutional rights.
We emailed Senator Brown on this issue over a month ago, and while he's responded to all of our emails in the past, he has not responded when asked if he will join the effort to fix this legislation. This, to say the least, is very disappointing. Our elected officials are sworn to uphold the Constitution. You would hope, and expect, that in a case like this, they would take that oath to heart. We don't know why Senator Brown is choosing to remain silent on this issue.
If you are as troubled as we are by this issue, we urge you to email Senator Brown and urge him to support the effort to 'fix' this bill.
If we ever do get response from Senator Brown, we will be sure to share his response here.
